The Emergency Preparedness Planning of Canterwood (EPPC) committee is taking signups of interested individuals within Canterwood, who MAY be interested in taking a Ham Radio Technicians Licensing class. We envision this class to be 2 or 3 day or evening sessions which would culminate with the Ham Radio Technician Licensing exam. The exam is not all that difficult, but will require some preparation and study. We hope to conduct this class at the HOA office. Possible time frame for the class is April or May. Passing of the exam and a $15 fee will get you your Technician Ham license. Then a $40 purchase will buy a capable hand held dual band (144 Mhz/ 440 Mhz) transceiver, which has a potential range of many miles, depending on the terrain. These radios will be very useful for communicating within your neighborhood or block, between block captains and the EPPC Incident Command Center in the event of a major disaster. The more hams we have within Canterwood, the better we will be able to communicate, when all other means of communications have failed! Of course, further training will be recommended on the use of the radios, and when and how to communicate to be effective in a disaster. If you are interested in being on the list, and to be advised when the class dates and times are set, contact Doug Munday (W7DRM), EPPC Chair at firstname.lastname@example.org Please include contact email and phone number, and the best day or evening of the week which would work for you.
